“When I was little, my mum used to tell me that if I kept rubbing my eyes I would go blind. I was scared, so I started to learn Braille just in case I go blind one day.”
My interests are forms of perception and non-accessibility of language in anthroposemiotics. In the realm of haptic, which constituted by the simultaneous visual and tactile experience, expands a language of equality between the subject and object. Through Braille-to-Text / Text-to-Braille transcription, embossing Braille geometric patterns, site-specific installations and performances both concerning the architectural environment of existing space; I joined this form of expression, yet with encoded, enciphered information. My work invites the viewer’s proximity through a minimalist practice, in addition to a consideration of the representation of blind people, also investigating the aesthetics and notion of tactility, the tension between heterogeneous ways of bodily function, individual surfaces and collective space.
I am widely working on varied projects with blind and visually impaired communities in Europe among England, Finland and Germany. I aimed to generate the collaboration between sight and non-sight individuals, based on everyday and educational gestures (Wandering in the city, assisting music / cooking lessons in blind schools and offering Braille lessons to sight children), and deterministically establish my practice through the commitment of working with the blind as a collective.
I see / feel touching as an intimate gesture, because you have to be close enough to feel me. Touching is also amorous, because to caress, is to be caressed.
